Brow Down to Autumn’s Top Trends

The clickety-clackety sound of heels has just about died down after the bi-annual onslaught of London Fashion Week. And while the beauty pack were busily getting the scoop on next summer’s top brow trends, (watch this space for that update) we thought we’d bring you up to speed on what’s hot for this season.

And never before has it been so necessary. Over the past few seasons, our backstage agents have reported a growing fascination among make up artists for all things brow. While once they used to be a mere after thought to the frivolity of a pastel lip or a flirty flush, brows have now become the feature on which everything else hangs. So because the brow now maketh the beauty look, we bring you the Blink Brow Trend Report AW11/12 extraordinaire.

LOOK 1: THE PEEKABO BROW
Take a trip down memory lane and get ready to party like it’s 1965. Look to the Gucci and Valentino shows then think a brow with a softly curving arch and a narrow(ish) shape – the perfect foil to this season’s full-on, Twiggy-esque lash look. Go heavy on the eyeliner, top and bottom – and load up those lashes with as much mascara as they can carry. Then let your eyes do the talking with a peekabo, flirty flutter.
The tool kit:
Maybelline New York Eye Studio Gel Liner, £7.99; www.superdrug.com
B by Blink Brow Bar’s Strip Lashes, £10-£15 for Twiggy-like length
L’Oreal Paris Made for Me Naturals Lipstick in Nude, £8.19; www.boots.com

LOOK 2: THE BOY BROW
What little girl hasn’t had a reject-the-pink-polka-dots-phase and gone into full-on tomboy mode? Prepare to channel that mood once more as this full, brushed-up brow was the star of the show at Alexander Wang and Burberry Prorsum. It has the natural beauty of the girl next door, (think Joey in Dawson’s Creek). Team it with pared-down skin then pick one accent feature, (eyes, lips or cheeks) and rock out the androgynous vibe.
The tool kit:
B by Blink Brow Bar’s Luscious Lash Oil, £16 to bump up the fullness
MAC Penultimate Brow Marker, £14; www.maccosmetics.co.uk to fill in those gaps

LOOK 3: THE LOW-CAL BROW
Perfect for anyone who’s been a little tweezer-happy of late, this is a slimmed down brow that’s really watching it’s weight. With its high arch and long, sweeping tail, this is the ideal way to give smouldering smoky eyes a more almondine shape. Reference classic movie icons, Rita Hayworth and Ava Gardner then get set to make a camera-ready appearance at a super glam event.
The tool kit:
Brow Shape, £17
B by Blink Brow Bar’s Eyebrow Pencils, £13 to perfect your shape between appointments

LOOK 4: THE MIRRORED BROW
Mirror, mirror on the wall, who’s the fairest brow of them all? For the ultimate sleek and slick, glossed brow look no further than the Amanda Wakeley catwalk. To set off this season’s emphasis on highlighted skin, even the brows went light reflective as make up artists ran balms, gels or lip glosses through the hairs to give the face an extra bit of polish.
The tool kit:
B by Blink Brow Bar’s Eyebrow Grooming Gels, £15
NARS Lip Gloss in Scandal pink, £17.50; www.hqhair.com for a glossy lip finish to complement your sheeny-shiny brows
